Wiber Rent A Car

Food is the key that opens the door to explore a culture. Although Mallorca is well known all over the world for the amazing ensaimadas, it’s not the only thing you can enjoy. Mallorca has a wide, high-quality gastronomic offer. Keep on reading and we assure you that your palate will be pleased.

Four traditional Mallorquinian cuisine recommendations:

Ca'n Joan de s'Aigo

A total must in Palma, you can’t miss visiting this traditional spot. It’s quite common to find long queues in high season but the hot chocolate, ensaimadas (you cannot miss the ones with filling, although maybe you have to book it in advance) and the typical almond ice-cream, made on their traditional style, are totally worth the wait. Maybe less known but also delicious are their classic cuartos, a simple but delicious sponge cake.

The mythical location for Ca’n Joan de S’Aigo is in the Sanç street, known for being the first ever coffee shop opened in Palma on 1700, and it has a few decoration pieces that are still from that time. Due to its high demand, it opened few more shots in Baró Santa Maria del Sepulcre street and Sindicat Street.

Celler Pagès

Gathering traditional Mallorcan dishes for over than fifty years, Celler Pagès is a family business placed at the core of the Lonja de Palma. You can find dishes as typical as the Pà amb oli (the Mallorcan way for the pà amb tomàquet from Cataluña), the typical tumbet or the frito mallorquín. Apart from the wonderful menu, it’s good for all budgets so if you go, you will go back.

It has been decorated in a way that will transport you to a traditional Mallorcan house, and you will be delighted by the exceptional service. We recommend you book in advance, as it is a very famous place and, especially in high season, it can be difficult to find a table if you have not booked at least 24h earlier.

Fornet de la Soca

If you wish to rustle up a meal on the beach, this traditional bakery near the Teatre Principal has your back: as a starter, you can choose from a wide variety of traditional meat pies or panades, potato cakes, cocarroiscoca de trampó… And of course, as a dessert you can try their ensaimadasrobiolsamargoscrespells (only on Easter), bunyols de vent… A real flavour trip for your mouth.

The owners have managed to rescue the old traditional recipes from the ancient Mallorcan baking style, and this is what they serve you, all made with local and fresh products. You will find Fornet de la Soca in the Weyler Square, on the old spot for Forn des Teatre.

Can Gavella

If you want to have lunch or dinner enjoying a charming feel with beautiful sea views, Can Gavella restaurant is your place. Less traditional than the previous ones, it holds a beautiful menu of rice and fideuà, as well as seafood, and we fully recommend it. But take note, as it is not for every pocket, and you will only find it open from April to October.

Few other special mentions: Bri restaurant, although it’s closed for now, has an excellent reputation on the island and has been a trend setter since the opening in 2010. Also Ca’s Patro March restaurant at Cala Deià, where a few scenes for The Night Manager were filmed, the TV series with Tom Hiddleston and Hugh Laurie as leading roles.

What do you think about our recommendations? We are now feeling hungry ourselves, and we can’t wait to try this delicious food again. Do you want to come with us? Visit our Mallorca office, pick up your favourite car and let’s fill it up with ensaimadas, panadessobrasadasrobiols and other food souvenirs that your family and friends have to try… that is only if they make it to the plane!
